The Alocasia Regal Shields is a hybrid cross between Black Velvet and Ordata, taking it’s velvety black colour from one and its magnitude from the other. Giant black velvety heart-shaped leaves with slightly ruffled edges and reddish undersides – now who wouldn’t want to own this plant?

Care
General Maintenance: Repot in the spring if the plant has become quite root bound. These are usually propagated by dividing the plant when it’s being re-potted in spring.
Temperature: Average temperatures between 17C – 30C are ideal for this plant. Do not go any lower than 16 C for night time temperatures. Room tempurature is ideal.
Light: Needs bright conditions, but no direct sun. Bright indirect light conditions are preferred.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season. Water less in the winter. These plants like extra humidity so consider a weekly misting or using a pebble tray filled with water.
Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted balanced fertilizer every 2 weeks during the growing season (May-Aug) and stop during the other months.
Soil: Requires loamy, rich organic soil. A pH between 5.5 and 7.0.
