Ananas comosus var. microstachys

Ananas comosus var. microstachys is an ornamental pineapple native to the tropical zones of South America. Like most members of the family Bromeliaceae, the leaves are arranged in a rosette formation. ‘Dwarf Pineapple’ has leaves that are sword-shaped, long and stiff, edged with sharp spines.Flowers are clustered on top of the flower stalk which emerges from the center of the plant.The small fruit is a collective fruit which is formed from the fusion of individual fruits. Fruits are pink in color, changing to pale yellow at maturity. Ananas comosus var. microstachys typically grows up to a height of 12 to 24 inches and spreads up to a diameter of 24 to 36 inches. Prefers full sun, light water and well-draining soil. It is drought tolerant. (Pot size: 6″ pot)
