Now considered to be extinct in the wild, the Franklin tree (Franklinia alatamaha) is a rare gem! Gorgeous camellia-like flowers open in June here in Morganton. Fragrant flowers are 3 inches wide with yellow stamens. Fall color is a brilliant orange-red-purple. Requires well-drained soil.
