Magnolia fraseri, commonly known as Fraser magnolia, is a captivating deciduous tree native to the cove forests and other moist mountain habitats of the southern Appalachians. The most striking features of the Magnolia fraseri are its 16-20” long and 8” wide alternate leaves. In May, one can enjoy its fragrant, creamy or white-yellowish flowers that are 8-10” inches wide.
Fraser magnolia typically grows to a height of 50 to 100 feet, forming a broad, rounded canopy with multiple trunks. The large flowers typically bloom in May and the fruit ripens in August-September. The tree is an excellent food source for wildlife with the fruit being highly desired by birds.
Magnolia fraseri is perfect for either a woodland environment or a specimen tree in the landscape.
