Pachypodium saundersii is a collectors plant froma range of unusual and sought after plants from Africa.Pachypodium means thick foot’, referring to the large, swollen caudiciform stems all members of this genus have. Found naturally in SouthernAfrica, on theLebombo Mountainsand other areas inKwaZulu-Natal,MpumalangaandEswatini(Swaziland).
It is usually a small, shrubby bush, but can grow up to 1.5m tall. The plant is covered in paired, sharp thorns, and dark green shiny leaves, and it flowers annually producing masses of white flowers that have a pinkish/purplish tinge to them.Leaves are present along the whole branch of this species which is unusual for Pachypodium.
