Yucca baccata – Banana yucca

Banana Yucca are heat tolerant, cold hardy and easy to grow! Narrow but thick, sharp-pointed blue-green leaves have thick curly white filaments along their edges. Plants form a good size, open rosette. Once mature, plants will form a flower stalk comprised of white-green bell-shaped flowers tinged with purple. Edible, 4-6in. banana-like fruit form in the fall from spring to early summer flowers after they are pollinated by moths. Mature plants can reach 4-6 ft. across and develop multi-trunks to form clumps, but banana yuccas are slow growing, but long lived plants are hardy to -20°F. USDA zone 5a.
