Opuntia rufida – Known by several regional common names like Blind Prickly Pear, this tough prickly pear occurs only in the Big Bend region of SW Texas. It is native to hot, rocky thorny-scrub environments up to 4000 ft. elevation. The velvety blue-green pads are conspicuously rounded, with dark reddish to black symmetrically spaced glochids. Easy to grow, adaptable, and extremely durable.
