Agave gentryi – Maguey Verde, Hardy Agave
Dark green Agaves, well-armed lance-shaped leaves with grey marginal teeth and long terminal spines. They grow large, maturing to 3-4ft. tall and 4-6ft. wide tip to tip. Cold hardy to around 5°F. Occur from 6,000ft. to 9,000ft. in pine and oak woodlands or high chaparral of northern and NE Mexico. Their natural adaptions makes them a good option for colder, wetter regions as long as the soil drainage is enhanced. They can tolerate shade and prefer it in the hottest parts of our low desert.
