Opuntia gomei (Opuntia sp.)Old Mexico Prickly Pear is another reliably cold hardy spineless opuntia. The pads are large, bright green and wavy. Low maintenance plants. Give them space. Old Mexico pp grows well in sun, filtered shade, heat, and don’t mind extra moisture when they have good draining soil. Spring to summer flowers are bright yellow and followed by attractive fruits. Easy to grow, especially from cuttings. Excellent fire-resistant plants. Indoor/outdoor houseplants for containers in all zones. Native to Mexico and southern Texas.
